  3. Forests provide shelter and food to a variety of plants, animals, and microorganisms.

  5. The leaves reduce the force of the raindrops to keep soil intact.
  6. The trees decrease the velocity of the wind to prevent dislodging of soil particles.
  7. The shade of the trees keeps the soil cool and moist in summer to offset the eroding effect of the wind.
  8. The layer of humans absorbs and hold rainwater preventing flash floods.
  9. Forests aesthetic value.
  10. Many people are employed in the profession connected with forests.
